Snowy Detour Hash - Run #456
April 19th, 2008

snowy tree Munn Road and Talon Ridge were a snowy and deep - the hares thinking only of the rabble and not there own safety having thoroughly scouted the area - selected a gentler kinder hash for the gentler kinder Vick's Hashers and set the start along the Lockside Trail just north of the Monkey Tree Pub.

And so with a surprisingly good response to last minute calls and web-updates, a turnout of about twenty hashers trotted or walked down the Lockside and over toward Mount Doug Park.  But first along the Blinkensop Lake trestles the sighting of a bear and a moose!

We were treated to some rare wonders once in the park as well - the VP was a magical place that even some of the locals (me) had not yet discovered (oh the special views and talents of the Stoolie and Double Hump are a wonder).  From the old raised viewing platform, even the trails disappeared, the roads were hidden and houses seen only at a distance. The Gary Oak meadow surrounded us and the valley appeared as it might have fifty or more years ago.  In each direction and the land rolled up or down.  Into the Blinkensop valley to the farmlands and the places we had just come from or up to the hills of little Mount Doug behind.

On through to the fire road and a beer check, the walkers catching up to the runners just in time. The hares out performed with hot chocolate, South African liqueurs and peppermint schnapps as well as the standard, water, beer or cider.  It was hard to leave that tailgate party; but - Joy - the hares out did themselves yet again having arranged for an all down hill return to the start within a km or so.

Mangina Circling up and the Grand Mistress in charge, the hares drank to celebrate the avoidance of untimely snow. Visitors (did I mention there where three, Blow no Evil from Bowser, Scoobie from Calgary Mucky Dip from Calgary) were called upon again as one (I'm really not sure which) took over as RA and charges were laid, Grand Mistress Squeaky for "Auto Hashing" to start.

A cake for leaving the Victoria hash without permission was awarded to Mangina along with a VH3 shirt. There were some raised eye brows as the luxury of and the convenience of a water jug was provided to wash off the cake and even of a towel - what is this hash becoming??? - a holiday hash?

Beaver and High Beams charged for use of technology to communicate beyond the hashers present during the hash. Paul for solo activities with hands in pockets while at the circle, was charged with playing "Pocket Pool".

Kitty Licker for wearing a "Relay" shirt and being a fast blab - catching up at the beer check after a late start and a 5 k detour to the south of the northerly start direction.

Frontal Lobotomy (the Hasher formerly known by the name "Grog") became Wanker of the week, for hanging on to school-boy names at advancing age.
